On Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field, theBrother Rice Warriors (6-1-1, 6-0) swept the Divine Child Falcons in both Games of a CHSL doubleheader 13-4 & 7-2. (Junior OF) Nick Plummer led the Warriors offensively throughout the day as he went 5-for-8 with a walk, 2 doubles, 2 Home Runs, 5 Runs scored, and 5 RBI. (Senior RHP) Matt Ruppenthal and (Sophomore RHP) Karl Kauffmannearned the wins on the mound with stellar performances in both games.
In Game #1 the Warriors got out to an 8-0 lead after 4 innings of play. Divine Child scored 4 in the 6th to cut the lead in half, but Rice topped them with 5 in the 6th to take a commanding 9-run lead. Nick Plummer slammed 2 Home Runs during the game, and (Sophomore OF) Preston Pilat smashed his 2nd HR of the year to highlight his 3-for-4 day at the plate.(Senior IF) Freddie Jehle chipped in with a pair of doubles as well.
In Game #2 Brother Rice scored a run in the 1st inning, but the Falcons answered back with 2 in the 3rd to take the lead. In the 5th, Nick Plummer reached base on a double to RF, and then (Senior 3B) Matt Ruppenthal drove a long Home Run to CF to give Rice a 3-2 lead. One inning later (Junior SS) Davis Feldman came through with a 2 RBI single to LF, and(Junior OF) Johnny Garry smoked an RBI single up the middle to give Rice some breathing room. Karl Kauffmann pitched out of a mini-jam in the 3rd and was virtually unhittable for the remainder of the game. He earned his 2nd victory of the season.
